SOMETHING About me

Oswald Wolkenstein Trostburg was born on the 22nd September 1954 in Bressanone, Trentina-Alto Adige, ltaly, the son of a business manager and an interpreter. A few months after his birth he developed a medical condition that left him deaf.  This condition led him right from when he was a small child to develop a marked interest in the arts, for which he showed great passion and through which he was able to express himself and find comfort. Ever since he was very young he devoted himself to drawing and coloring and to water-coloring. Later he moved onto sculpture. Through the various forms of art he explored Oswald was able to encourage his creativity, overcoming his physical impairment. Just as cartoons right from his childhood had been a stimulus and a way of escaping from reality, as an adult painting became for Oswald a way to escape from his daily life, at times disappointing and overwhelming.

Through his work he aims to recreate a bridge between reality and imagination, a pleasant place, with no spaces or boundaries within everybody's reach.

Having successfully completed his studies at the G.B. Cignaroli Fine Arts Academy in Verona, city which later became his hometown, Oswald Wolkenstein rapidly made a name for himself and received several positive reviews and recognition from critics.

Always very keen, he found inspiration in the works of incomparable artists like Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Fernando Botero, Vincent Van Gogh and Gustav Klimt, who influenced him to such a degree as to make him decide to recreate and reformulate some of their themes. Oswald developed an original approach, using color as the center point of his artistic experience. His paintings always start from a drawing in pencil, later completed using a nib pen. This technique of his, between    pointillism and divisionism, basically includes primary colors, block spread   in some areas and with no change in intensity and complementary tones next to them their put clearly with the intention of increasing the contrast.

The result is very lively with a clear taste for decorative that allows the artist to break down in pieces nature and its colors, which become even more vivid.

After a long career in insurance, during which he never gave up artwork and his interest in the art world, Oswald now devotes his time and his attention solely to his creations, living in Verona and on lake Garda, both places he is very fond of and that have always been a great source of inspiration.

In July 2020 Oswald was chosen to participate in the       "I Mille di Sgarbi" (Sgarbi's Thousands) exhibition organized by the italian art critic Vittorio Sgarbi inside the Cervia's salt warehouses. The two artworks, The Kiss (2020) and Self-portrait (2006), stood out among the many exhibited for their ability to make the author's feeling immediately perceptible through the colors and the uniqueness of his technique. In the picture here beside we can see Sgarbi during his inauguration speech alongside the work "The Kiss" painted during the first months of 2020 on the occasion of the exhibition.
